Chestnuts are coming back to America as scientists have been very busy the past 25 years solving the fungal disease which was imported into the USA in 1906 from japan and China and destroyed 25% of the Eastern forests. Michigan leads the chestnut production in the United States. China, Korea,  Portugal and Italy also produce chestnuts. We support the work to bring back the Chestnut to America. The American Chestnut lumber was the best rot resistant wood and millions of animals and indigenous peoples  relied on Chestnuts for food. The American scientists are attempting to cross breed the American with the Chinese to create a tree resembling the American with the Chinese tree resistance. In 2021 unfortunately yet another disease , the chestnut brown rot disease was found in the United States possibly beginning yet another phase of challenges.
